How To Play

Turn Structure in Magic

1. Beginning Phase

Untap: Untap your permanents. Upkeep: Triggered abilities happen. Draw: Draw one card.

2. Main Phase (Precombat)

Play a land (once per turn), cast spells, and activate abilities at sorcery speed.

3. Combat Phase

Beginning of combat, declare attackers, declare blockers, combat damage, then end of combat.

4. Main Phase (Postcombat)

You get another main phase to cast more spells and use abilities.

5. Ending Phase

End step: End-step triggers resolve. Cleanup: Discard to hand size, damage is removed, and “until end of turn” effects end.
